The four - armed image of Siva Vyakhyana Daksinamurti, Sum total knowledge and its expounder, places his left foot on the infant - shaped demon of Forgetfulness ( apasmara purusa ) who cluthes a serpent. The iconographic theme is integrated in the 'architectural' conception of the monument.
